Design Your Kitchen

Kitchen is the area of home where every house women spends maximum time while at home. Every home maker has its own ideas and concepts to provide the kitchen, sometime it may not meeting the end customer’s requirements but you yourself can make that happen with the help of Interior design. Below are few of the points which would help you in designing kitchen in better shape.

1. Select your kitchen manufacturer

2. Get the kitchen Dimensions

The dimensions can be used from below reference diagram.

3. Choose the suitable kitchen design

  •       U shaped
  •       G shaped
  •       L shaped
  •       Island Kitchen

4. Final the Floor plan
5. Mention all fixtures and appliances places

A. Place the refrigerator in an area of the kitchen that’s accessible without walking through the main cooking area – usually towards the end of a run of units (keep in mind refrigerator door clearance requirements in kitchen dimensions).  That way other members of the household can use the refrigerator without disrupting the cooking activity.  In addition if it’s a tall unit it’s logical to have it at the end of a run of units.

B.  Place the sink.
C.  Place the counter space area for grocery set down, chopping, organizing and counter top appliances.
D.  Locate the waste storage.
E.  Place the storage areas related to food preparation around the preparation area.
F.   Place the freezer if it isn’t part of the refrigerator.  Since trips to the freezer are less frequent this can be in another location (e.g. pantry or utility room) if it makes sense.
G.  Locate any ‘extras’ such as radio and TV.

6. Identify the number of trolleys and their positions

You can always have idea about your utensils and their places in your Kitchen. You have to think very wisely before you fix the positions of your trolleys as per daily usage. The basic trolley can take up to 15kg load or more, so always check the number utensils and other kitchen appliances weight before choosing the channels, boxes, baskets etc.

7. Electrical Points fittings and lights in Kitchen

The kitchen is one room where you can’t afford to have poor lighting. It’s not only a matter of design and atmosphere, but also safety when it comes to handling sharp knives and other kitchen tools. Plus, the more light you have in the room, the better you can show off your design elements.

Rooms generally need three types of lighting:

  •        General lighting for overall illumination
  •        Task lighting ( Luminance Light )
  •        Accent lighting ( Focusing light on particular area )

For your kitchen, evaluate the work areas and focus on providing each spot with the light it needs. Consider adding lighting directly above all the main work areas.

Use pendant lights or a series of mini-pendants to enhance the beauty of the kitchen. Pendants look great above kitchen sinks, while a series of mini-pendants work well over breakfast bars and kitchen islands. Install under-cabinet lighting to ensure that the counters have sufficient lighting for common kitchen tasks.

8. Installation of actual kitchen

For better and long life fixing of kitchen trolleys and cabinets you should choose the best service person. The installation of kitchen will always include measure and marking of walls, fitting of trolleys and cabinets, handle fixing, channels etc. Make sure all parts and doors, locks etc. are functionally working.

9. Color and handle selection for cabinets/shutters.

Choosing colors for kitchen and cabinets is something time consuming process where so many color shades can be chosen from.
Warmer colors such as red are believed to stimulate the appetite and are an excellent option for kitchens. Red is incredibly versatile and there are multiple shades that would really pop in a kitchen, either on the cabinets or the walls.

Most people start their days in their kitchens, and white can really energize a room. It feels fresh and clean, and an all-white kitchen will really wake you up the minute you step in it. You can also have more fun with your countertops and backsplash in an all-white kitchen and choose brighter colors or designs for those.
Some of the steps I would suggest here :

  • Select on color palette
  • Choose color you love
  • Consider your flooring and other existing colors in kitchen and rooms
  • Keep countertops neutral
  • Try all colors chosen on paper design to feel the look
  • Consider the lighting in kitchen you will have.
